Gogglebox’s Amy Tapper admits three stone weight loss was inspired after mortifying seatbelt incident on airplane

AMY Tapper’s incredible weight loss journey was triggered by one ’embarrassing’ incident on a family trip to Disneyland.

The former Gogglebox star, 21, opened up about the horrific moment made her feel “not normal”.

“I’ve been dealing with issues around my weight since I was eight. Over the years I tried different diets and quick fixes,” Amy told the Daily Star.

“The hardest times were when I was made to feel embarrassed. Whenever I was on a plane I’d have to ask for an extension for my belt.

“I was so embarrassed about it, I’d always book an aisle seat so I didn’t have to ask in front of a stranger.”

It was then in Disneyland when an embarrassing moment lead her to make the decision to lose weight.

“And then when I went to Disney with my family, me and my dad had to sit in a different row on a ride because we needed bigger seats,” she said.

“When things like that happen it’s horrible. It makes you feel like you’re not normal.”

Things got really bad for Amy when her family shot to fame on the Channel 4 reality show and she became the target for hateful trolls.

She said: “I was 13 and I started looking up my name and there was negative stuff.

“At one point it was quite bad. Everyone said what they wanted. There was bullying.”

But things have started to turn around for Amy who has already lost three stone.

“Losing weight has changed my day-to-day life,” she explained.

“I went for a two mile walk the other day. I don’t think I could have done that before. I’m more confident, less tired and sweat a lot less.”

As a result of her amazing transformation, she has become a role model for many of her fans.

“People tell me I motivate them with both mental and physical health,” she said.

“That makes me feel really good because it makes me realise I’m not just doing this for myself.”

Opening about the trolling she faced came just days after Amy slammed followers for their “backhanded compliments” after she was cruelly told she has more weight to lose after shedding three stone.

The 21-year-old star has been documenting her impressive transformation on social media, overhauling her image with a healthy diet and exercise.

She proudly took to her Instagram page yesterday to share a new before and after photo to highlight her trimmer figure.

Amy captioned the post: “New Year New Goals! I’ve been on my health and weight loss journey for a while now and despite lockdown I’m feeling the best I’ve felt physically in ages so just wanted to share a recent pic against one of my before photos from last year!”

But she was taken aback by some of the comments the photo received, admitting that fans’ well-meaning words may not have come across as they intended.

Posting on her story, she wrote: “The worst thing is backhanded compliments. Like, compliment someone if you’re gonna compliment them.

“Don’t be like: ‘Well done, another three stone to go’ because when you think about it, that’s more of an insult than a compliment.

“Especially if you don’t actually personally know me.”

She defiantly went on to add: “Excuse the rant, I love all of you and your comments and support but unfortunately it’s ones like that that stick out.
