And the 41-year-old Bridesmaids star says she now wishes she had done it sooner.
Seeing in the New Year from her native Australia, she posed with her hand on her hip in a skintight dress.
Rebel has dropped from 17st 3lbs to 11st 10lbs in two years, mostly by cutting out sugar and junk foods. And unlike many of her fellow celebrities, she says she has swerved the latest Tinseltown fad diets.
She also says she now does not eat to cope with stress. Rebel has now maintained her goal weight of being below 12st for a year — and says she is healthier and happier than ever.
Talking about her drastic weight loss, she said: “Now that I know I can do it, sometimes I feel sad that I didn’t do it earlier. Maybe I should have tried when I was 30, not 40. But everybody’s journey is different and it’s not a race or a competition. It’s about respecting yourself and doing what’s best for you.”
Her weight loss has been compared to British singer Adele’s after the superstar transformed herself by losing around 7st.
But Rebel admitted she feared a change in her look could cause her career to dry up, after finding fame with lighthearted movie roles as the “big girl”, such as Brynn in 2011’s Bridesmaids and as Fat Amy in 2012’s Pitch Perfect. Now she enjoys keeping fit by hitting the gym and with regular runs near her home in Sydney.

And she added: “The biggest lesson I’ve learned is how to deal with my emotional eating. Learning to process my emotions and deal with my emotions better.
“That’s what’s really changed my life for the better.”
Keen to use her weight loss to inspire others, she said: “It’s never too late to start improving yourself and trying to be the best version of you possible.”
